In this topic you can find some information about inventory tracking at the attribute level using the third-party inventory tracking module, Viking Coders Inventory Manager. Miva itself does not provide built-in functionality to track products at the attribute level. You can find some general information regarding inventory tracking at the attribute level in 2.2.2 Setting Up Inventory Tracking at the Attribute Level.
Inventory Manager by Viking Coders allows you to define as many inventory notification "levels" as you want, each with its own inventory cut-off. For each level, you can define the action, if any, that is to be taken when the product's inventory reaches the defined level. You can configure the levels to take no action, prevent the sale of the product, or prevent the display of the product (by making the product inactive). You can configure email to be sent for each level as well.
Examples:
You could have "Low Inventory" level and assign a cut-off of 3 items. When the defined notification level is reached, an email will be sent notifying you that inventory is getting low.
You could also specify an "Out of Stock" level and assign a cut-off of 0 items. When the inventory reaches the "Out of Stock" cut-off level, it will send an email as configured for the level and prevent further sales of the module. If a customer attempts to add a product to their basket that is currently at an inventory level that prevents sales, the module will take the customer to "Insufficient Inventory" to display an "Out of Stock" message.
The inventory count is adjusted as a customer adds a product into their basket. However, the inventory tracking module does not wait until you delete expired baskets to retrieve inventory. The module can be configured to dynamically sweep the inventory of expired baskets back into stock. The sweeping occurs every time the product is displayed ensuring that inventory will not "linger" in expired baskets. You can track inventory for any combination of Attributes and Options for a product.
Note: Inventory Manager by Viking Coders eliminates the need for using Miva Merchant's built-in inventory feature. If your store currently runs Miva Merchant's built-in inventory feature or another inventory tracking module, you will want to deactivate it prior to using Inventory Manager.
