Moving an MS Access Data File

Moving the Data File

For an Access database

  1. Determine the current location of your store data file. Click the I for information on the main menu or CTRL + SHIFT + C.
  2. Clear the table links by pressing Ctrl+Shift+L from the Main Menu. Click OK when prompted. then Exit the Program. (Repeat this step on all machines running SEOM.)
  3. At this time all Stone Edge programs should be closed.
  4. Copy the data file to new location:
    • If your data file is already in a shared folder on a network drive or server, simply copy the entire folder to the designated StoneEdge directory on the new file server.
    • If starting a networked configuration of SEOM, move the following files/folders from the original location to the designated StoneEdge directory on the new file server:
      • Store data file (for example, MyStore.mdb)
      • Custom Reports.mdb
      • EmailTemplates folder
      • NewOrders folder
      • DataArchives folder
    • NOTE: Make sure that the new folder/location is shared and users have adequate access to the folder.
  1. Rename the data file on the old file server (for example, MyStoreOLD.mdb) to distinguish it from the data file copied to the new location.
  2. On each workstation running SEOM:
    1. Launch SEOM.
    2. You will be prompted to open a new or existing store file. Click No to open an existing store.
    3. Click the file icon to browse network locations.
    4. Go to the file path of the moved datafile and click it to open.
    5. Once the store has been opened, go to the Main Menu of SEOM and click Switch Stores.
    6. Select the link to the old data file location and click Delete Link.
  3. Update Parameters if the data file location has been updated with new file paths.
    1. SharedFileLocation -> location of customreports.mdb
    2. NewOrderLocation -> location of NewOrders folder
    3. ArchiveLocation -> location of DataArchives folder
