Microsoft has announced the End of Life for SQL Server 2008 R2.

New users are strongly encouraged to install SQL Server 2012 or 2014 to take advantage of the latest improvements in the product, such as speed, and avoid the need to upgrade the software in the near future.

Existing users of SQL Server 2008 R2 are strongly encouraged to make plans to upgrade to SQL Server 2012 or 2014 at your convenience, but preferably before support ends for SQL Server R2 SP3.

*SQL Express databases are limited to a size of 10 GB.

Third party application for Sync Manager communication method

• File synchronization application such as Dropbox, OR, an FTPS application such as Filezilla

Hardware

• 1.2 gigahertz (GHz) processor or higher (Intel i5 or i7 dual-core processors are recommended)
• Minimum of 4 GB RAM
• 1.5 gigabyte (GB) free disk space recommended
• 1024x768 or higher resolution monitor
• A high-speed broadband or T1 internet connection
• A Local Area Network (LAN) or equivalent is required for multiple computers to access a common store file simultaneously; 1000 Base-T (gigabit) Ethernet recommended, along with CAT5E cables.
• Wireless connections are not recommended.
• Requirements for a server may vary depending on which edition of SQL Server you choose to run.  Please refer to the system requirements provided by Microsoft, which can be found here.
