Overview<\/h2>\n

When importing data from a text file, if the data contains commas, the file should be saved as a tab-delimited file, not a CSV, or you will encounter errors.<\/p>\n

Quotes should not be present in text files, whether a CSV or tab-delimited file or you will encounter errors.<\/p>\n

Importing Customer Data<\/h2>\n
    \n
  1. Go to\u00a0Main Menu > Manage My Customers ><\/i>\u00a0\u00a0Import My Customers<\/i><\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. Type in the path to the text file or database containing the imported data, or click the Folder\u00a0<\/strong>to navigate to the file’s location. The table containing the data must also be selected if a database is used.<\/li>\n
  3. The program displays the records from the input file at the bottom of the screen. If the input file contains headers, the program attempts to map them to the appropriate\u00a0SEOM<\/span> fields automatically. Manually map any fields the program cannot distinguish later in this process.<\/li>\n
  4. Click\u00a0Next\u00a0<\/strong>to proceed to the\u00a0Import Options<\/strong>\u00a0tab.<\/li>\n
  5. Change the default settings of the\u00a0Field Delimiter\u00a0<\/strong>field and\u00a0First Row Contains Field Names\u00a0<\/strong>check box as needed to match your input file.<\/li>\n
  6. To select the mode, the import process follows clear or select Match on Customer ID<\/strong>. (Create New Customers<\/strong>\u00a0is always selected by default.)\n

    1. If Match on Customer ID<\/strong> is cleared, the program creates records for any “new” customers, as defined by CustomerSearch1-4<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    2. If Match on Customer ID<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a0selected,\u00a0and<\/i>\u00a0UseCustomerMatching\u00a0<\/strong>= TRUE, the customer match screen appears during the import when a matching record is found and allows you to select and update a limited number of fields in the record. Also, review the parameter CustomerMatchConfirmEmails<\/strong>. See\u00a0Matching New Records to Existing Customer<\/a>s<\/i>\u00a0for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
    3. Click\u00a0Next\u00a0<\/strong>to proceed to the first page of the\u00a0Customer Fields<\/strong> tab and map those fields as needed.<\/li>\n
    4. Click\u00a0Next\u00a0<\/strong>to proceed to the second page of the\u00a0Customer Fields<\/strong>\u00a0tab and map those fields as needed.<\/li>\n
    5. If custom inventory fields are defined, click\u00a0Next\u00a0<\/strong>to proceed to the first page of the\u00a0Custom Fields<\/strong> tab, which contains custom Text and Integer customer fields. Map those fields to areas in the input file as needed.<\/li>\n
    6. Click\u00a0Next\u00a0<\/strong>to proceed to the second page of the\u00a0Custom Fields<\/strong>\u00a0tab, which contains custom Currency and Date customer fields.<\/li>\n
    7. Click\u00a0Next <\/strong>to proceed to the\u00a0Finish and Import<\/strong>\u00a0tab.<\/li>\n
    8. Select the\u00a0Backup Before Importing<\/strong>\u00a0check box to make a backup copy of the program tables affected by this process. Click\u00a0Restore from Backup<\/strong>\u00a0on the\u00a0Select File to Import<\/strong> tab if it is necessary to roll back the changes. For example, restore the backup, correct the field mappings, and repeat the import process if you discover that a field was mapped incorrectly.<\/li>\n
    9. Optional: Click\u00a0Test Data,<\/strong>\u00a0and the program checks for limited data errors.<\/li>\n
    10. Select\u00a0Begin Import\u00a0<\/strong>to start the process.<\/li>\n
    11. If a backup copy was requested, respond\u00a0OK\u00a0<\/strong>to the confirmation message.<\/li>\n
    12. The program provides a summary of the outcome, including a count of any new and edited records.<\/li>\n
    13. Click\u00a0\u00a0OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
