    This article discusses the operational modes of\u00a0Magnetic Stripe Readers\u00a0<\/strong>(MSRs) supported by\u00a0SEOM\u00a0PM and how to configure the program to use those devices to process payment transactions for POS\u00a0Orders.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    You may need to download a utility from the manufacturer\u2019s website to prevent the device from inserting carriage returns and line feeds. Refer to Knowledge Base topic,\u00a0Magnetic Stripe Readers,\u00a0for more information.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Supported Devices<\/h2>\n

    SEOM\u00a0PM is able to use Magnetic Stripe Readers (MSRs) that function in the following modes:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Keyboard Emulation Mode<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 this mode makes the MSR appear as a keyboard to the PC, regardless of the actual type of hardware connection.<\/li>\n
    • USB HID (Human Interface Device)<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 the program now supports the use of MSRs that are designed as USB HID devices. The device must report itself as a Magnetic Stripe Reader, and there can only be one such device attached to each physical workstation. \u00a0Currently, the supported device list is limited to\u00a0Magtek Mini Mag<\/strong>\u00a0readers.<\/li>\n
    • Cherry Keyboards register themselves as \u201ccustom\u201d HID devices and are not supported as a USB MSR. You should be able to use it as a keyboard emulation device.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      \"\"Magnetic Stripe Readers that require the use of a Serial Port are not supported.<\/p>\n

      Configure SEOM PM to use Magnetic Stripe Reader in Keyboard Emulation Mode<\/h2>\n

      \"\"Currently, only MagTek Mini Mag MSRs have been tested and approved for use with\u00a0SEOM\u00a0PM. Other Magtek models or other manufacturer\u2019s products may work, but they have not been tested by\u00a0Stone Edge Technologies Inc., and therefore are not considered to be \u201csupported\u201d.<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Launch the PM.<\/li>\n
      2. Select\u00a0Parameters > System Level Parameters<\/strong>. If for some reason MSR\u2019s attached to different workstations use different control characters, use the\u00a0Computer Based<\/strong>\u00a0parameters instead.<\/li>\n
      3. Under\u00a0Parameter Group<\/strong>,\u00a0select\u00a0Card Reader<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      4. Select system parameter,\u00a0CCReaderModel<\/strong>\u00a0and set it to\u00a0Generic \u2013 Keyboard Emulation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      5. Optional: The program sets system parameters\u00a0CCReaderPrefixTrack1-3<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0CCReaderSuffixTrack1-3<\/strong>\u00a0to the most commonly used characters. If your device is internally configured to use different characters, you must update these parameters accordingly.<\/li>\n
      6. Click\u00a0Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      7. Open Notepad and swipe a card through the device. If the cursor is not immediately following the card data (it is at the beginning of the next line in the file), you need to get the utility from the manufacturer and disable carriage returns (CR) and line feeds (LF) in order for the device to work with Stone Edge.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
