{"id":403,"date":"2019-04-05T15:09:13","date_gmt":"2019-04-05T15:09:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=403"},"modified":"2019-06-24T20:15:39","modified_gmt":"2019-06-24T20:15:39","slug":"creating-inventory-categories-2","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/articles\/creating-inventory-categories-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Creating Inventory Categories"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Overview<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">SEOM<\/span>\u00a0uses a variety of lists throughout the program that can be used as they are supplied with the program, or the user may add their own entries to the lists.<\/li>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">This article explains how to create and assign a\u00a0<strong>Category<\/strong>\u00a0to inventory items.<\/li>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">Assigning categories to products is useful for reporting, accounting, and exporting order information to a fulfillment\u00a0center.<\/li>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">Most of the lists that the program uses are accessible via the\u00a0<i>List Maintenance<\/i> screen, which can be found by going to:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><i>Main Menu&gt;Accordion&gt;Settings&gt;Data Functions&gt;List Maintenance<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Creating an Inventory Category<\/h2>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li class=\"p\">Open the\u00a0<i>List Maintenance<\/i>\u00a0screen.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p\">Select the <strong>Inventory Categories<\/strong> entry in the <strong>Select List<\/strong> box.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1202\" src=\"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/settingsdatafunctionslistmaintenanceinventorycategoiresjpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"577\" height=\"370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/settingsdatafunctionslistmaintenanceinventorycategoiresjpg.jpg 577w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/settingsdatafunctionslistmaintenanceinventorycategoiresjpg-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/settingsdatafunctionslistmaintenanceinventorycategoiresjpg-50x32.jpg 50w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/settingsdatafunctionslistmaintenanceinventorycategoiresjpg-60x38.jpg 60w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/settingsdatafunctionslistmaintenanceinventorycategoiresjpg-100x64.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 577px) 100vw, 577px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><i>\u00a0List Maintenance: Inventory Categories<\/i><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>To add a category called &#8220;Jeans&#8221;, type that value into the text field labeled\u00a0Category\u00a0at the bottom of the screen and click the\u00a0<strong>[Add\/Edit]<\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/li>\n<li>The category \u00a0&#8220;Jeans&#8221;, is now visible in the\u00a0<strong>List Entries\u00a0<\/strong>section of the screen.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Assigning an Inventory Category to a Product<\/h2>\n<p>Categories can be assigned to products at the\u00a0<strong><i>Inventory<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Multi-Record &amp; Price Editor<\/i>, and the\u00a0<i>Global Editor<\/i><\/strong>\u00a0screens by making a selection from the\u00a0Category\u00a0drop-down list on each of those screens.<\/p>\n<h3>Inventory Screen<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the\u00a0<i>Inventory<\/i>\u00a0screen by going to\u00a0<strong><i>Main Menu&gt;Accordion&gt;Manage My Inventory&gt;View &amp; Manage My Inventory&gt;Item<\/i><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Navigate to the desired\u00a0<strong>Inventory\u00a0<\/strong>record.<\/li>\n<li>Click the\u00a0<strong>[Edit]<\/strong>\u00a0button in the upper right hand corner of the\u00a0<i>Inventory<\/i>\u00a0screen.<\/li>\n<li>Click the down-arrow of the\u00a0<strong>Category\u00a0<\/strong>drop-down list and click on the appropriate pre-defined category to assign to product.<\/li>\n<li>Click the\u00a0<strong>[Save]\u00a0<\/strong>button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen to save the changes or click the <strong>[Cancel]<\/strong>\u00a0button to abandon the change.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Multi-Record &amp; Price Editor Screen<\/h3>\n<p>Changes can be made to multiple products in a single editing session at this screen. Refer to the\u00a0<i>Knowledge Base<\/i>\u00a0article,\u00a0<i>Multi-Record &amp; Price Editor<\/i>\u00a0for more information.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1203\" src=\"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/ex_blue-12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"32\" height=\"36\" \/>Changes made at this screen take affect immediately and cannot be un-done.\u00a0Backup the data file before making mass changes.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the\u00a0<i>Multi-Record &amp; Price Editor<\/i>\u00a0screen by going to:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><i>Main Menu&gt;Accordion&gt;Manage My Inventory&gt;View &amp; Manage My Inventory&gt;Item&gt;Multi-Record &amp; Price Editor<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Check the box labeled\u00a0<strong>Category\u00a0<\/strong>on the\u00a0<i>Standard Fields<\/i>\u00a0tab, which is the default view of the screen.<\/li>\n<li>Choose a product in the list of\u00a0<strong>SKUs\u00a0<\/strong>by clicking its row.<\/li>\n<li>Then click in the corresponding\u00a0<strong>Category<\/strong>\u00a0cell and select the appropriate entry from the drop-down list that appears.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Global Editor Screen<\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Global Editor<\/strong>\u00a0is used to make mass changes to a limited number of fields found on an\u00a0<strong>Inventory\u00a0<\/strong>record. The user has the ability control the group of records that will be altered by specifying a value or a range of values as a filter. To limit the group of records that will be affected by the changes, enter filtering criteria in the <strong>In records where:<\/strong> section of the screen.<\/li>\n<li>The records matching the criteria will populate the\u00a0<strong>Selected Items<\/strong>\u00a0grid at the bottom of the screen.<\/li>\n<li>To make the change in category for the selected records, click the\u00a0<strong>[Perform Edit]\u00a0<\/strong>button at the bottom of the screen.<\/li>\n<li>The program asks for confirmation before making the changes.
