{"id":272,"date":"2019-04-03T20:05:10","date_gmt":"2019-04-03T20:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=272"},"modified":"2025-06-09T16:00:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-09T16:00:12","slug":"pos-ending-a-shift","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/articles\/pos-ending-a-shift\/","title":{"rendered":"POS Ending a Shift"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Overview<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">At the end of each user\u2019s workday (or whenever an audit of the workstation\u2019s transactions is to be performed), the &#8220;shift&#8221; must be \u201dclosed\u201d in\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: small;\">SEOM<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">Use the\u00a0<strong>ZOut()<\/strong>\u00a0function to close a shift, which can be assigned to the\u00a0[<strong>SHIFT+F1<\/strong>]\u00a0key combination by clicking the\u00a0<strong>Reset Function Key Defaults<\/strong>\u00a0button on the\u00a0<i>Hot Keys<\/i>\u00a0tab of the\u00a0<i>Point of Sale Setup<\/i> screen when the POS\u00a0system is being initially configured.<\/li>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">If the user has already customized any of the function keys to perform functions other than their default settings, do not use the\u00a0Reset Function Key Defaults\u00a0button; instead, choose another unused Function Key and manually configure it to perform the ZOut() function. See the\u00a0<i>Knowledge Base<\/i>\u00a0article,\u00a0<i>POS Setup &#8211; HotKeys<\/i>, for more information about adding or changing hot keys.<\/li>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">System parameter,\u00a0<strong>UseShiftForFunctions\u00a0<\/strong>must be set to <strong>TRUE<\/strong> for HotKeys 13-24 to be visible at the top of the\u00a0<i>POS<\/i>\u00a0screen when the\u00a0Shift\u00a0key is pressed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Ending a Shift<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">In the following example, the\u00a0Reset\u00a0button on the\u00a0<i>Hot Keys<\/i>\u00a0tab of the\u00a0<i>Point of Sale Setup<\/i>\u00a0screen was used to load the default settings for Function keys 13-24.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3724 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/0041.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"626\" height=\"487\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/0041.png 626w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/0041-300x233.png 300w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/0041-50x39.png 50w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/0041-60x47.png 60w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/0041-100x78.png 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 626px) 100vw, 626px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">At the\u00a0<i>POS<\/i>\u00a0screen, pressing the\u00a0<strong>Shift\u00a0<\/strong>key shows that Function Key 13 is assigned to the function, &#8220;Close Shift&#8221;, or &#8220;ZOut()&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2950 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/POS-Close-Shift-Button.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"109\" height=\"76\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/POS-Close-Shift-Button.png 109w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/POS-Close-Shift-Button-50x35.png 50w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/POS-Close-Shift-Button-60x42.png 60w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/POS-Close-Shift-Button-100x70.png 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 109px) 100vw, 109px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">The shift can be closed the key combination of\u00a0<strong>Shift+F1<\/strong>\u00a0or by holding the\u00a0Shift\u00a0key down while clicking\u00a0<strong>Close Shift<\/strong>. At that time, the program will open the <i>Select\u00a0a Printer<\/i>\u00a0screen, providing that system parameter\u00a0<strong>UsePrinterMenu\u00a0<\/strong>is set to <strong>True<\/strong>. Otherwise, the <strong>Shift Close Report<\/strong> will be sent to the workstation\u2019s default printer.<\/li>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">Click\u00a0<strong>Print<\/strong>. After the report has been printed, the program prompts the user:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3725 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/0042.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"405\" height=\"148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/0042.png 405w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/0042-300x110.png 300w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/0042-50x18.png 50w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/0042-60x22.png 60w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/0042-100x37.png 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 405px) 100vw, 405px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li class=\"p\">If\u00a0<strong>Yes\u00a0<\/strong>is selected the program will close the POS screen, or the entire program, if the workstation is only permitted to open the POS system of\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: small;\">SEOM<\/span>. Refer to\u00a0<strong>Computer Startup Screens<\/strong>\u00a0in the\u00a0<i>List Maintenance<\/i>\u00a0function of the program.
