The use of the terms &#8220;category&#8221; and &#8220;categories&#8221; in this article are not to be confused with the\u00a0<strong>Category\u00a0<\/strong>field on the Inventory record of a product, which can be used to identify the physical location of the product in a warehouse.<\/li>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">The levels,\u00a0<strong>categories<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>subcategories\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>groups<\/strong>, that are mentioned here can be used in conjunction with Froogle, Shop.com and Stone Edge Technologies&#8217; ECom Assembler (Web catalog building program, no longer for sale). Froogle and Shop.com require that classification information is provided when product data is sent to them. Froogle only allows a single classification label for each product, while Shop.com accepts multiple level classifications per product, although only one is required.<\/li>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">This feature is accessed by going to\u00a0<strong>Main Menu &gt; Settings &gt; Inventory Functions &gt; Levels<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Description of the Screen<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1986 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Levels.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"947\" height=\"620\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Levels.png 947w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Levels-300x196.png 300w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Levels-768x503.png 768w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Levels-50x33.png 50w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Levels-60x39.png 60w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Levels-100x65.png 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 947px) 100vw, 947px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At the top of the screen there are three sections that lists all of the entries defined in each of the three classification levels, <strong>Categories<\/strong>, <strong>Subcategories<\/strong> and <strong>Groups<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>At the lower portion of the screen there are several tabs, however the only one relevant to this discussion is the\u00a0<strong>Product<\/strong> <strong>Assignments\u00a0<\/strong>tab. \u00a0The other tabs pertain to the ECom Assembler, which is outside the scope of this topic.<\/li>\n<li>It is only necessary to define the hierarchy of levels and assign products to them when using Shop.com or Froogle. No other data shown on the image above is required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Alphabetize Button<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>used to order the products on the product level pages for use with ECom Assembler<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Move Products Between Levels Button<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>can be used to relocate a product from one product classification to another<\/li>\n<li>opens the\u00a0<i>Move Products<\/i>\u00a0screen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Edit Button<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>permits the user to alter the contents of the\u00a0<strong>Names and Description<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Page Links<\/strong>\u00a0and<strong>\u00a0META Tags<\/strong>\u00a0tabs, which pertain only to the ECom Assembler<\/li>\n<li>click\u00a0<strong>Save\u00a0<\/strong>to retain the changes or\u00a0<strong>Void\u00a0<\/strong>button to abandon the changes that have been made<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Close Button<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>exit the\u00a0<i>Categories, Subcategories &amp; Groups<\/i>\u00a0screen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Add Button<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>create a new entry in the selected classification level: <strong>Categories<\/strong>, <strong>Subcategories<\/strong>, or <strong>Groups<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Delete Button<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>select an entry from the list in the appropriate section: <strong>Categories<\/strong>, <strong>Subcategories<\/strong>, or <strong>Groups<\/strong>, and click this button to permanently remove it from the system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Move Button<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>select an entry from the list in the appropriate section: <strong>Categories<\/strong>, <strong>Subcategories<\/strong>, or <strong>Groups<\/strong>,\u00a0\u00a0and click this button to move it from one classification level to another<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Copy Button<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>select an entry from the list in the appropriate section: <strong>Categories<\/strong>, <strong>Subcategories<\/strong>,\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>Groups<\/strong>,\u00a0and click this button to create a duplicate of that entry with a different name in the current classification level<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Rename Button<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>select an entry from the list in the appropriate section: <strong>Categories<\/strong>, <strong>Subcategories<\/strong>, or <strong>Groups<\/strong>,\u00a0\u00a0and click this button to create a change the name of that entry in the current classification level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Defining Categories, Subcategories and Groups in <span style=\"font-size: small;\">SEOM<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3>Categories<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to\u00a0<strong>Main Menu &gt; Settings &gt; Inventory Functions &gt; Levels<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0Refer to\u00a0<i>Figure 1.<\/i><\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Add<\/strong>\u00a0under the\u00a0<strong>Categories<\/strong>\u00a0section of the screen and enter a name for the new category.<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0Save.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat steps two and three as often as necessary to create the broadest of classification labels to assign to products.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Subcategories<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to\u00a0<strong>Main Menu &gt; Settings &gt; Inventory Functions &gt; Levels<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Add<\/strong>\u00a0under the\u00a0<strong>Subcategories<\/strong>\u00a0section of the screen and enter a name for the new subcategory.<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat steps two and three as often as necessary to create subordinate classification labels to assign to products.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Groups<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to\u00a0<strong>Main Menu &gt; Settings &gt; Inventory Functions &gt; Levels<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Add<\/strong>\u00a0button under the\u00a0<strong>Groups<\/strong>\u00a0section of the screen and enter a name for the new group.<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat steps two and three as often as necessary to create the most detailed or specific level of classification labels that will be assigned to products.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Assigning Products to a Level<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Select the category, subcategory or group definition to which products will be assigned from the appropriate list at the top of the screen. Select a radio button to list product the list by <strong>SKUs<\/strong> or Item <strong>Names<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0The contents of the list that will be produced can be controlled by selecting one of the following methods:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Show All\u00a0<\/strong>button displays all inventory products<\/li>\n<li>the number (#) or letter buttons can be used to filter the list of products that will be displayed, by those that start with a number or the specified letter<\/li>\n<li><strong>Unassigned Items<\/strong>\u00a0lists all products that are not currently assigned to a level<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Add to Page<\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/li>\n<li>The selected product will now be listed in the\u00a0<strong>Products<\/strong>\u00a0section of the screen.<\/li>\n<li>To remove a product from a level, select it in the\u00a0<strong>Products\u00a0<\/strong>section and click\u00a0<strong>Remove<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The blue directional arrows will move the selected product up or down in the list of\u00a0<strong>Products<\/strong>, which has no bearing in the context of this topic, as it relates only to the ECom Assembler.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"Image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2023 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Product-assignment-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"939\" height=\"582\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Product-assignment-1.png 939w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Product-assignment-1-300x186.png 300w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Product-assignment-1-768x476.png 768w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Product-assignment-1-50x31.png 50w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Product-assignment-1-60x37.png 60w, https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Product-assignment-1-100x62.png 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 939px) 100vw, 939px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The images shown in this section of the topic show that the category, &#8220;New Category&#8221; is selected from the <strong>Categories<\/strong>\u00a0section at the top of the screen. The<strong>\u00a0Available Products<\/strong>\u00a0list is filtered to display\u00a0<strong>SKUs <\/strong>that begin with the letter &#8220;B&#8221;. Three products have been added to the category; T-shirt, Shirt-with Options, and Large-Blue-SKU. An example of creating a three-tiered hierarchy would have been to create a <strong>Category<\/strong> of &#8220;Clothing &#8220;, a <strong>Subcategory<\/strong> of &#8220;T-Shits&#8221; and lastly, <strong>Groups<\/strong> named &#8220;Color&#8221; or &#8220;Graphic&#8221;, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Move Products between Levels<\/h2>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Move Products Between Levels\u00a0<\/strong>to\u00a0open the\u00a0<i>Move Products<\/i> screen, which is used to promote or demote a product to or from another classification level. Then select a different category, subcategory or group in one of the lists on the right-hand side of the screen.<\/li>\n<li>Use the\u00a0left or right directional arrows below the\u00a0<strong>Move<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Copy<\/strong>\u00a0sections of the screen to place the selected product in the appropriate level.<\/li>\n<li>The other buttons at the bottom of this screen are used to change the sort order of the products in each classification level. The sort order is only applicable to the ECom Assembler, not Froogle or Shop.com.
