{"id":140,"date":"2019-04-01T20:47:18","date_gmt":"2019-04-01T20:47:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=140"},"modified":"2025-08-06T14:23:34","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T14:23:34","slug":"advanced-custom-fields","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/stoneedge.com\/kb\/articles\/advanced-custom-fields\/","title":{"rendered":"Advanced Custom Fields"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Overview<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">Beginning with Enterprise Edition 5.908,\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: small;\">SEOM<\/span>\u00a0allows an unlimited number of custom fields for customer and product (inventory) records.<\/li>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">These advanced custom fields are visible on user-defined tab pages accessed via the\u00a0<i>Inventory<\/i>\u00a0or\u00a0<i>Customer<\/i>\u00a0screens. The process is basically the same for both types of advanced custom fields.<\/li>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">Advanced Custom Fields\u00a0are presently only for data storage and cannot be used as search criteria.<\/li>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">It is not possible to have more than one workstation\/user editing the advanced custom fields at the same time. If that is attempted, the program will present a message stating that someone else is currently using this feature, and the user should try again later.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Configure SEOM to Use Advanced Custom Fields<\/h2>\n<p>Depending on the type of advanced custom fields to be created:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">set system parameter,\u00a0UseAdvancedCustomCustomerFields\u00a0to TRUE<\/li>\n<li class=\"CopyofBulletedList\">set system parameter,\u00a0UseAdvancedCustomInventoryFields\u00a0to TRUE<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0<u>default setting<\/u> of each parameter is False. The name of the new tab appears under the\u00a0Tab Pages\u00a0heading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li class=\"p\">Click the\u00a0Add Fields\u00a0button to add a custom field to the new Tab Page.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p\">Enter a name for the custom field in\u00a0Field Name. In the future, to add another custom field, double-click in this field and the program proposes a unique name for the field.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p\">Select the\u00a0Show Label\u00a0check box to use a value other than the field name as the field label.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p\">Enter the label in\u00a0Field Label\u00a0or the program uses the field name as the label. Refer to the\u00a0Sample:\u00a0section of the screen.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p\">Select the\u00a0Define Field Type\u00a0tab and select the\u00a0Data Type\u00a0of the field.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p\">Select a value from the\u00a0Display Type\u00a0list. The choices change, depending on the data type. If a\u00a0Data Type\u00a0of &#8220;Text&#8221; is selected, the program allows the user to specify the\u00a0Maximum\u00a0field\u00a0Length\u00a0by over-typing the default value of 255. It only causes the field to be listed in the design section of the screen so that it can be further customized.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p\">Use the\u00a0Move\u00a0directional arrows to relocate the field on the tab page. The\u00a0Step Size\u00a0dictates how far the\u00a0Move\u00a0arrows repositions the field each time they are clicked.
