Windows 64-bit operating systems (OS) contain tools that are available in 32-bit or 64-mode, allowing for the continued support of 32-bit applications, such as Microsoft Access. One administrative tool that may affect Order Manager users is the ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) interface. It is imperative that the correct mode of this tool is used, based on the operating system that is installed.
The ODBC Administrator tool is one example of a system tool that can be run in either 32 or 64 bit mode.
System DSNs that are created by the 32-bit ODBC Administrator tool cannot be viewed by the 64-bit tool.
System DSNs created by the 64-bit ODBC Administrator tool cannot be viewed by a 32-bit ODBC tool.
To execute the 64-bit version of the ODBC tool, simply access it via the Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Data Sources (ODBC).
To access the 32-bit ODBC Administrator tool on a PC running a 64-bit OS, the user must directly invoke it from the SysWoW64 folder. Go to Start>Run; type in %systemdrive%\Windows\SysWoW64\Odbcad32.exe and click OK.
Go to the Control Panel>System>General tab or My Computer->Properties->General tab to determine if a workstation has a 64-bit operating system installed.
Order Manager uses System DSN ODBC connections. Since Order Manager is a Microsoft Access application, and Microsoft Access is a 32-bit application, users that have 64-bit operating systems and are manually creating ODBC connections (outside of the Order Manager's UPS Worldship Setup function) that will be used in conjunction with the Order Manager should invoke the 32-bit ODBC tool from the SysWoW64 folder when creating or altering 32-bit ODBC connections.
If the built-in UPS Worldship Setup function is executed to create the ODBC connection for external shipping software connections with the Order Manager on a 64-bit operating system, the 32-bit System DSN will be created but the user will not be able to view the System DSN via the ODBC Administrator tool available through the Control Panel (64-bit). Execute the 32-bit version of the ODBC Administrator Tool instead. Refer to the instructions listed above. The built-in UPS Worldship function can be used to create an ODBC connection for use with any shipping software that requires and ODBC connection, such as FedEx Ship Manager, DHL DBConnect or Endicia (USPS) GalaxyShip. The same ODBC connection can be used for multiple shipping software connections.
